Giglio Porto, a place full of character

Giglio Porto: the town

This is the island’s main town and is situated on the east coast, where ferries arrive from Porto Santo Stefano. It’s a tourist town with a lively seafront, perfect for strolling among the jetties or shopping in the many boutiques. Colourful fishermen’s cottages scattered around the harbour, narrow streets and lanes leading to the pretty square, Piazza della Dogana, give this little place a friendly, Mediterranean feel. Giglio Porto is the heart and soul of the island, with some fine monuments to see such as the medieval Torre del Saraceno, and the church of the Madonna del Giglio. The town has plenty of facilities, including a bank, post office and pharmacy, as well as vehicle hire and a private clinic.

Giglio Porto: the harbour

There’s just one harbour on the island, and that’s at Giglio Porto. A picturesque harbour with a marina opposite rows of colourful houses provides basic amenities such as fresh water and electricity to boats that moor there.
